Castlemaine Continuing Education
The purpose of this workshop is to take the short story from concept to creation! Participants will plan, write and edit their short story with the end-view of submitting it for prizes (such as The John Marsden Prize for Young Australian Writers) or publication (be it in a zine, magazine or online.)
For the first two sessions we will explore:
- Collecting ideas, using personal experience as a starting point
- Finding stories in unusual sources
- Inspiration and examples
- Discussion of what makes a short story ‘work’
- Exploring the basics of structure, genre, character development, plot and pacing
Session three will be a salon. Participants will read out their edited stories and eat cake.
All classes at Castlemaine Continuing Education Inc. The cost for all three sessions is $50.
