Things afoot...

I am currently presenting a radio show on the local community radio station WMA FM. My show is called Folkish and is on Wednesdays from 11am - 1pm. I play mostly folk music, and by that I mean mostly old folk music - traditional American music from the 20s and on and a whole lot of UK folk and some instrumental things ... it's a fairly gentle show - safe to say you won't hear anything electronic on there... Anyway, the website is here if you want to stream it: http://wmafm.com/new/
I have been getting very into various versions of ballads such as the ones collected by Francis James Child, and the murder ballads are stacking up - mostly drowning women songs or slaughtering women songs, or lads gone rambling songs after destroying women songs - I find it fascinating that there's a history of violence that has been recorded from so long ago, and presented in this fetching/palatable-if-you-don't-listen-too-closely way of song.

In other news: I have some upcoming events that you might want to diarize...
