July/August Events and passing the Bechdel Test

Hello. It's cold. I'm pretty much in the cave at the moment but have a couple of things to mention:

I'm on a podcast! With Fiona Wood and Cath Crowley - we three are writing a novel together and talked about this and more on Unladylike, a great new podcast on women and writing created and hosted by Adele Walsh and Kelly Gardiner. You can hear all the excellent episodes on the site (also interviews with Sian Prior, Vivian Gornick and Clare Wright to name just a few.)

And some upcoming workshops/panels:

July, 2016
Writer-in-residence at St Albans Secondary College

I'll be working with the Year 8's and some Year 10's on object writing and 'thing' poems.

August 26, 2016
Feminist Writers Festival (members only networking day)

I'm on a panel with Ailsa Wild, author of the Squishy Taylor series

10am  - Writing for Kids with a Feminist Lens
In this session writers will draw on their own experience and practice to discuss the challenges of writing feminism for children and young adults. What are the most effective ways of engaging with young people, and why is it important to initiate discussions about gender equality at every age age?

Adding to this, I was rather delighted to find Notes from the Teenage Underground on this list from Bust for YA fiction by women that passes the Bechdel test. If you have not heard of the Bechdel Test you can read about it here.
