When I was a teenager my greatest discoveries came from the TV guide. Every week I would interrogate it, circling the movies I wanted to watch. The most appealing ones came on in the wee small hours. I would wait until everyone was asleep, and then sneak out to the lounge to sit inches away from the screen and watch with the sound down low.
