Girl Defective shortlisted for Adaptable 2021
Some news: I have been shortlisted for the Queensland Writers Centre's Adaptable 2021 which runs in conjunction with the Gold Coast Film Festival. The initiative matches writers with a completed book with producers looking for 'content'. I am doubly excited because I applied last year (with Everything Beautiful) was longlisted but did not get any further. So, you know, I am always trying to fail better. This year I pitched Girl Defective (Look - it already says 'in the tradition of High Fidelity and Empire Records'!) It is heartening to see a wealth of Australian young adult and middle grade fiction on the list. Our streaming services are bombarded with US teen fare (always!) I'd love for some @loveozYA and @loveozMG writers to get more exposure, and it goes without saying that I'd love to see Sky & Gully doing the rounds of St Kilda on the big (or small) screen.
